Last season this game would never have survived the torrential rain of the last few days. When the Livi support woke this morning they must have been expecting yet another call off due to rain. Teletext buttons will have been pressed all over the country thus morning but we have all been told that the drainage problems had been sorted and this was going to prove it.

The pitch passed the test with flying colours and while very wet it showed no evidence of surface water at all, before the word "bog" would have been a formality.

The Game was suprisingly good given the heavy conditions as both teams still tried to play football and largely succeeded. The games major turning point came when Queens central defender slid in the wet and injured himself in between the two goals. Queens had no defenders on the bench and midfileder Townsley took over but clearly felt the pressure.

Livi took the lead when Dave Bingham headed home a Neil Bennett cross after 20 minutes, looping the ball over Scotland U21 keeper Dave Mathieson. Bingham increased the lead four minutes later cracking home a shot low into the net past the stranded Mathieson. Livingston could and perhaps should have gone three up just before the break. Gordon Forrest should have celebrated his recall to the First team with a goal when he broke clear of the defence, but hesitated when he seemed surprised to be onside. His meekly hit shot went straight at Mathieson.

Livingston continued to dominate the second half and created good chances that really should have been converted Charlie King (twice) and Roberston being guilty of missing near sitters. Queens created a couple of good chances in the second half as they came more into the game and Neil Alexander, now Scotland's first choice U21 keeper showed his opposite number what he had to beat to regain his place.

MoM: Dave Bingham got right back at his best in this game scoring both goals and looking dangerous the whole game.
