This was a great game and a brilliant advert for second division football. The two pre season favourites for the league served up a game of fast attack minded football, which while at times scrappy and frantic was a great game to watch. The record crowd of 5402 saw a treat of a match which Thistle fans will feel rightly disappointed not to have taken at least a point from.

Partick started the game topping the table four points ahead of Livingston and ahead of Caley on goal difference and game to Almondvale with no intention of letting that change. The game swung from end to end and Paul Deas opened the scoring after 13 minutes with a cracking 25 yd curling shot which sent the home support crazy. Both teams created good chances and Thistle had the ball bundled into the net midway through the first half but the strike was 100% correctly disallowed because of a clear foul on debut 'keeper Neil Alexander. The Jags had the ball in the net again just before the interval when a crazy deflection took the ball over Alexander but this time the goal was chalked off for Offside (I assume but play appeared to be re-started with a goal kick!)

MoM: The match sponsors vote went to Paul Deas and it is almost impossible to argue a case against that because Paul had a great game. My vote however goes to John Millar who had one of the best games he's played in a Livi shirt.
